The head of leadership development for one of those global companies that ends up on everyone’s “Best Places to Work” list says executives in the U.S. and Europe are clueless when it comes to developing leaders to drive growth in emerging markets. He told me senior executives in industrialized countries absolutely have their head in the sand when it comes to understanding the new leadership competencies needed to succeed in global markets.

“To many companies think you become a global leader by flying to Mumbai first class and staying in a five-star hotel for week,” he said.
